All new episodes are archived elsewhere!
In case you’re wondering, the magnificent Pure Cinema Podcast is now available through The New Beverly website out in Los Angeles. Yep, the theater owned by Quentin Tarantino. The hosts recently interviewed him along with Joe Dante. To say they are evolving would be an understatement. It was an honor to host their first three seasons here and the show only continues to get better after pairing up exclusively with The New Beverly, so check out all future episodes and subscribe there or wherever else you get your podcasts!
Episode 36: Peary's Cult Movies 3
For their Season Three Finale, Elric and Brian return to their tradition of using one of Danny Peary's Cult Movies books as the jumping off point for the episode. They each choose their usual "Five Films Because" from the book and also throw in a short list of three movies each that they feel deserved to be highlighted from season three. During the break between seasons, be sure to look for them on Patreon, where they will continue to crank out exclusive bonus content!
More 90s Cult!
This episode was originally recorded in 2017 for our Patreon subscribers, but we've spruced it up with clips for all of you to check out! We offer more picks each in rapid succession to compliment our original 90s Cult episode (ep 15). Apologies for the sound quality as it was recorded via Skype before we were able to streamline that process. Please think about supporting the show on Patreon!
Episode 35 - "Bonkers!"
Elric and Brian are joined by film programmer/social media master Phil Blankenship to discuss the many joys of brain melting, noggin sizzling bonkers cinema.
Episode 34 - "Toon Time"
Elric and Brian turn a spotlight on animated films for this episode - preceded by a discussion of their earliest experiences with the form and of course "5 Films Because" each.
Episode 33 - Movie Satires with Adam Rifkin
On this episode, Elric and Brian have their first guest of season three as they are joined by director Adam Rifkin to discuss movie satires (and Adam's new films THE LAST MOVIE STAR and DIRECTOR'S CUT). Some good Burt Reynolds talk to be had here too!
Episode 32 - Late 80s Cult Movies - 1985-89
Elric and Brian keep on keeping on with the 80s cult theme this episode, moving into the back of the decade to discuss 10 more gems each.
Episode 31 - Early 80s Cult Movies - 1980-84
Elric and Brian return to another of their "Cult Movies" episodes - this time tackling the first half of the 1980s with ten picks each!
Episode 30 - An Exploitation Sampler
After going in depth on John Carpenter and Documentaries, Elric and Brian go breezier with this "Exploitation Sampler" episode, in which they each choose a film from the categories of Blaxploitation, Hicksploitation, Canuxploitation, Sexploitation and one 'wild card' category of exploitation. This will hopefully just be a lead in to deeper dives into many if not all of these categories at a later date.
Episode 29 - Documentaries!
After their epic Carpenter two-parter, the boys are back to talk documentaries in a similarly epic way (in a single episode this time). For this round, Elric and Brian offer up 5 Documentaries because and an additional 5 recommendations each that are currently available streaming! 20 plus documentaries!
